I’ve been traveling visiting family since October and I’ll be honest, I’ve been doing a LOT of crafty shopping online. There were some great sales from Black Friday to Cyber Monday to end-of-year warehouse clearances, etc. I’m waiting for Tonic’s Jan 1 sale (they’ll be opening their vault) and then I’m going to give the credit card a well-deserved break.… Read the rest

FLIP – Crafter’s Companion Box Kit #20 – Layered Stencils
Layered stencils are a new thing for me, so getting this kit was really exciting. There are a LOT of sets of layered stencils. They are all sorts of sizes so you can use them in a variety of ways.

Motion Crafts – Small Card
After making the Small Envelope project (which I use as a gift card holder), I was hooked on these animated stamps by Motion Crafts. I buy them directly from the Motion Crafts website. These are fun, interactive projects that will surely be a lot of fun for whoever you give them to.
Custom Word-Edged Easel Cards
Turn your word or alphabet dies into fun custom-edged easel cards. While you can buy word edge dies, give the alphabet or word dies in your stash some new life by using them as edgers.
Card Making
Tips & Tricks
- When you line up your top cutting plate, be sure to look at where the cutting edge is and make sure you leave some of the bottom edge uncovered (so it doesn’t get cut)
- You can also put your die cutting-edge up on your paper and draw two reference lines — one at the bottom of the die (so you know where to line up your dies) and one where the bottom cutting edge (so you know how to line up your top cutting plate to avoid cutting the bottom edge)
- It’s best if you can leave at least 2-3 spots across your die still attached at the bottom to give it extra stability.
FLIP – Crafter’s Companion Box Kit #14 – Stencils
I don’t think I’ve ever used stencils as extensively as I did during this craft session. 🙂 It really did remind me to pull out my stencils more often. Stencils are great for making gorgeous backgrounds. These backgrounds can also stand centerstage with just simple sentiments to finish them off.

FLIP – Crafter’s Companion Box Kit #18 Character Stamp and Dies
I was really looking forward to this box and it was rather hard to find. In fact, the only place I found that has it available as a one-off purchase is HSN.com. Many of the other boxes you can find on sale on a variety online retailers so you can often get it at a good price if you catch a sale.… Read the rest
Motion Crafts – Small Envelope
I know these have been around for a while, but I’ve only just discovered Motion Crafts. If you aren’t familiar with these, they allow you to create interactive cards that animate when you pull a special grid across the stamp.
This particular die set is actually perfect for gift cards, and it’s great in general even if you don’t use it with the animated stamp.
Christmas Advent Calendar Folio – Box With Attached Lid
This is the second style of advent calendar folios I created. The main difference from the first style is in the box construction. I’ll be honest though, this method needs tweaking. After I put the candies in, I found the lid isn’t secure enough to hold the candy in. I had to make more advent calendars in a hurry and didn’t have time to redesign this one, so I ended up making the rest of my advent calendars in the first style.
Cards Using Crafter’s Companion Box Kit 13 – Flower Forming
Flower forming with foam (or foamiran) is a first for me. I was excited but also a little nervous to try this new method–especially since it involves a hot iron. After my first flower, I was hooked! I’ve since purchased a couple of different flower foams from different companies so I can compare and contrast before settling on a brand.
FLIP – Crafter’s Companion Box 17 – Shaker Cards
This Shaker Card Box Kit is really fun beyond just making shaker cards. Not only do you get nested dies in different shapes, but there’s a very generous amount of shaker bits too. You’ll be making shaker cards for days! What’s great about the shaker bits that come in the kit, is you can use it for embellishments as well.… Read the rest
