Specialty cardstock, like the Pearlized line from CutCardStock, is gorgeous all on its own—which is why I often use it just as it is. But did you know it’s also perfect for dry embossing? The pearlized finish reflects light beautifully, highlighting every raised detail and bringing your embossed designs to life.

Let’s Make This Card
Step 1. Cut Your Pieces and Assemble
- Pop Tone SnoCone – Cat
- DSC Pearl Hummingbird Teal – Eyes
- DSC Textured Caribbean Blue – 4″ x 1.5″ strip
- DSC Pearlized Gunmetal Black – 4″ x 5.25″ panel
- Pop Tone Cotton Candy – Ears
- Cougar White – Eyes
- DCS Black – 5.5″ x 8.5″ Card Base, Eyes
Step 2. Emboss and Trim the Panels
Even though the pearlized cardstock already has some beautiful texture, I ran it through a 3D embossing folder for even more texture. The shine and shimmer of the pearlized cardstock really helps highlight the embossed design. With the DSC Textured Caribbean Blue panel, after cutting the strip, to change things up a little, I cut a slight angle off the top. This doesn’t have to be perfect, but I aimed to slice about half an inch down from the right side.
Step 3. Start Layering
My card base is 4.25″ x 5.5″ folded, which leaves a black border all the way around the embossed panel. I really love the monochromatic layering – black on black, in this case. I think it helps create a defined border and give it a more layered look.
Next, I layered the DSC Textured Caribbean Blue strip. I added a bit of low-profile foam behind this piece to give some more depth and dimension. The final assembled cat now has a platform to sit on, so to speak. I glued the cat flat to the DSC Textured Caribbean Blue strip, but since that piece is raised up on foam, I put some 3D glue gel behind the top portion of the cat. That makes it easier to keep that cat level with that top layer.
And finally, I used a sentiment that I printed. This is from a free sentiment digi from my friend Irene who is teaching at The Paper Escape.
