Let’s Talk Design Teams – Part 2!

Are you a papercrafter wondering what design teams are and more importantly how you get onto one? The goal of this “Let’s Talk” series is to have real, honest conversation to dispel some myths and lift the veil of Design Teams.

If you caught my first livestream in this series, we had such an amazing conversation. My guests on that live stream were members of my creative team – all of whom have zero design team experience, the key requirement for applying to my team. It was interesting to hear their perspective of a design team as someone who has never been on one. I remember feeling exactly like they do and many folks in the live chat shared their experiences as well.

In Part 2 of this series, I will have the distinct honor and pleasure to chat with some amazing designers. We will be streaming on Saturday, February 18 @ 2PM PST. We’re going to cover the good, the bad and the ugly parts of being on a design team. We all have different experiences and from that, different perspectives. It’s a little scary to be so open about a topic that isn’t talked about much publicly. But we share a common desire to help other crafters get a better understanding of what is really involved with being on a DT — the ups and the downs.

Part 1 Recap

Live Chat Audience

We had a wonderful mix of crafters who have zero DT experience, many designers who have experience and even a couple of people who run their own teams now!

Some Topics We Covered

We covered a lot of interesting topics, including:

  • What is a Design Team?
  • What is a “hop”?
  • Are a YouTube channel and Blog needed to apply to a team?
  • Some common misconceptions
  • How crafting can help us in our life and our health
  • There were lots of suggestions in the chat about different teams to look for

Some of my Favorite Comments in the Live Chat

And that’s just some of the amazing conversation in just the first hour (of the THREE hour stream)! Be sure to check out the replay and don’t just listen to the stream, but read the live chat too. There were so many good conversations going on in the live chat. I wasn’t able to catch them all live but I saw them in the replay and there’s so much goodness everyone shared.

Part 2 – An Inside Look Into What It’s Really Like on a Design Team

I’ve invited some amazing designers to join me in a panel discussion for Let’s Talk Design Teams – Part 2. We are going to dive deeper and get a closer look into what design teams are and what it’s really like to be on one. We’re not going to shy away from the tough topics and we’re going to be as open and honest as we can be. Our goal isn’t to spread any rumors or generate negativity. Quite the opposite. Design teams feel very mysterious and as a result there are misconceptions, misperceptions, and a lot of unknowns. We want to shed some light on this part of the crafting community. We want to de-mystify the experience and give other crafters a real look at design teams.

As with everything, everyone’s experience is different and that’s why we’re going to have so much to learn from each of our panelists. My goal with inviting different artists to join my discussion is because a single person’s experience is not indicative of what your experience on a design team might look like. But collectively, if we can each share our experiences with you, that might giving you a fuller picture of what it can be like to be part of a design team.

I’ve opened up to my YT channel members, the opportunity to submit questions early. As I curate topics for our panel discussion, I will try to cover these requests. I hope you’ll join us live and take part is this conversation.

Who Are My Panelists?

Watch this space! I will introduce each of my panelists between now and Saturday, February 18 @ 2PM PST. It’s an honor for me that they are joining this important discussion. I feel like it’s going to be a real treat to get to chat with them and I hope you feel the same!

Let’s Talk Design Teams – Bonus for Members Only!

If you saw my earlier post – Let’s Talk Design Teams – Part 1! – I talked a little bit about my crafty journey. I shared an overview of my YT channel growth and the number of teams I joined and left.

I’m preparing a Let’s Talk Design Teams “Bonus” livestream to go into more depth about my journey. I’ll talk about exactly which teams I joined, which ones I fell off of. We’ll go into more specifics about my approach for applying, why I made certain decisions and if those decisions helped or hurt my progress. I’ll share an in-depth look at that timeline, and specific YouTube metrics and numbers. Finally, I’ll talk about what my affiliate marketing income and YT ad revenue look like. This is going to be a very close, inside look at my path and what I’ve learned so far. It’ll be live, so anyone joining the stream live will have the opportunity to ask me questions in real-time.

This livestream will be very personal and in-depth. I’ll be sharing real numbers and sharing specifics of my journey. I’m a bit nervous to put such sensitive and personal information out in the public. As a result, this will only be available to my YouTube channel members at the Dies level ($24.99/mo). You are welcomed to start and stop your membership at will. So yes, you can join just for this stream and then cancel or change your membership level. There’s no contract or commitment. If there’s sufficient interest (at least 10 members at this level), I’ll work with members to schedule this at a convenient time for as many people as possible. It won’t happen before April though, due to my streaming schedule.
