Description
Bling – Not every card needs it, but I sure do love to add it! Probably the biggest challenge I have is knowing when to stop. I love adding some bling to a card to give it that little extra shine and sparkle. To some eyes, maybe it’s too kiddish, but I think these accents can bring a card to life. It may not be the right choice for all cards, but I do find myself reaching for some bling more often than not. Some of my favorite things are:
- Rhinestones – I just picked these up on Amazon and I’m liking them so far. I mainly got it because of the variety of both color and size. There are 22 colors in 5 sizes each (2-6mm). They do have a sticker backing, but I use that more for initial placement because I like to move things around, hold it up, see how it looks, etc. You’ll still want to use liquid glue to give it a strong hold. Originally, I purchased a set of rhinestones that I do like a lot because it came with two sets in their own storage containers. The set of clear rhinestones came in multiple sizes (2-5mm) and the variety color set only came in 2mm. Well, after using it, I found that having a variety of sizes is a nice design touch and I kept wishing I had larger colored rhinestones.
- Pearls – I also like using pearls for a more refined, soft look. NuvoDrops seems really cool because you can make them any size you want and it’s easier to work with in some ways, but I’m used to using these pearls. They are a nice dome shape with pearlescent finish. Best of all, they come in a variety of colors and five sizes (3-8mm). Similar to rhinestones, I initially got a set of pearls that had two box-fulls. First box was ivory pearls in a variety of six sizes (1.5 – 6mm) and the other a mix color variety all in 3mm). Having the variety of sizes is really nice. Plus, the newer set I bought has a large variety of colors. The downside is they are pretty well mixed together because they are sorted by size. However, when I go to use pearls, I first grab the color I want and then the size. It took me some time to sort these by color but it’s worth it. Each color has several hues, so I’m pretty happy with it so far!
- Peel-offs – I’ve recently discovered Love From Lizi in my card kit research and while shopping the site, I found these awesome pin stripe foil stickers! In the past, to achieve that thin accent line, I would cut a super thin strip of cardstock and use 1/8″ double-sided adhesive tape. It got a little fiddly but I always seem to have scraps that fit the bill. However, these peel-offs are amazing! They come in a variety of colors and finishes and now they even come in different designs/shapes.
