Description
I don’t know very much about watercoloring, but I do know it makes a difference to use watercolor paper. This is the one I use. I bought a few different types but ultimately, this was the best bang for buck and seems to work well. Again, not being a pro, I’m not sure exactly how to gauge quality other than what looks good to me.
Here are a few of the other types of watercolor / mixed media papers I’ve tried:
- Strathmore 300 Bristol Smooth (these are small trading card size, which I bought just to sample the paper)
- Strathmore 400 Mixed Media
- CansonXL Mixed Media
Overall, I think the Strathmore papers feel more smooth. In particular, the Bristol paper is the smoothest and one that I might do alcohol brush marker coloring. With brush markers, you want a smooth paper so it doesn’t beat up your brush tip.
