Christmas Advent Calendar Folio – Box With Separate Lid

Love how this advent calendar folio turned it. It was my first time making one and it came together so much more quickly than I thought it would. I’m not as worried about making the next 5 advent calendars I’m planning on. LOL 🙂

In this version, I’ve made boxes that have separate lids. This is also a larger size folio as well. I did make a second version that is smaller and features a different style box (I’ll update this post with a link to that video when it’s uploaded).

I can’t wait to fill these advent calendars up with little goodies!

Box Instructions

The instructions below are for roughly a 2″ square box, finished. However, you can create any size square box. Start with a square piece of cardstock for the lid. Then cut the cardstock for the bottom of the box about 1/4″ smaller in height and width. That ensures the lid will fit easily and snuggly over the bottom of the box.

Tips & Tricks

  1. If you’re using pattern paper, you want to have that face up. When you score your lines, you’ll want to fold those scorelines as mountain folds.
  2. If you have an envelope template on your scoreboard, that might make scoring on the diagonal a little easier. I use the Bira Craft one and it’s perfect. In the tutorial video I show how I do this.
  3. If you don’t have a scoreboard, you can use a ruler and line it up with your tick marks and score that way.
  4. If you don’t have a scoreboard or a scoring tool, you can use a ruler and just fold your card stock against the the ruler to get a nice straight fold.
  5. In step 5, when you cut your slits, just make sure to cut through both layers of cardstock but not any further.
