Christmas Advent Calendar Folio – Box With Attached Lid

This is the second style of advent calendar folios I created. The main difference from the first style is in the box construction. I’ll be honest though, this method needs tweaking. After I put the candies in, I found the lid isn’t secure enough to hold the candy in. I had to make more advent calendars in a hurry and didn’t have time to redesign this one, so I ended up making the rest of my advent calendars in the first style. I’ll come back to this though and try to improve it.

Tips & Tricks

  • This style of box makes efficient use of an 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of paper.
  • I’m glad I didn’t use the FSJ advent buttons because they would have made it even harder for the lids to stay closed.
  • I recommend using at least 80 lb cover for the boxes, but perhaps even thicker. That might help the lids close; however, I’ve been brainstorming a design with a closure to really keep the lid shut.
  • One nice aspect about this style is you can put the boxes right against one another, making a smaller calendar overall. It also allows you to decorate the outer edges to make it look more like a book.
